1990 Celica

hi guys I have a 1990 celica and when it changes from 1st to 2nd when cold it changes very hard as it warms up it changes beautifully. Any clues ..am being told it most likely a damper in the transmission?

It's a common problem and is a worn synchromesh. Something that helps is to use a thicker gearbox oil.
I had exactly the same issue with mine and the thicker oil improved it though didn't totally fix it. The proper fix is a gearbox rebuild.

Hi Guys my 1990 Celica is still changing hard from 1 st to 2 nd when the engine is cold. We have even put a slightly stronger spring in the damper but it remains the same. If I drive the car approx. 15 mins the change becomes smooth like a different car.
We have changed the oil and filter in the Auto trans twice now and still the same.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Ps does anyone know a good Auto Transmission place in Sydney (around Liverpool / Blacktown Area)
